WE arrived late on Saturday afternoon and received a very warm welcome from the reception staff. Our room was on the 7th floor with two large Queen size beds with the most comfortable mattresses and pillows . I had read reviews of this hotel and the only complaint had been that the rooms were small but we have had smaller rooms in Eastern Europe and without the amenities. We were pleasantly surprised as to the location with Madison Square and Penn Station some 200 yards from the hotel and Macys and the Empire State Building just three blocks down. Across the road from the hotel was "Jacks 99c Store" and having discovered we had forgotten to pack our toothbrushes it was the first place-after a meal- we visited. There wasn't any noise from traffic at night and as our room overlooked the 32nd Precinct and we didn't hear one siren from a policecar all night either the NYC crime rate had dropped to -zero or the double glazing was most effective. The breakfast was free and the apple and orange juice was delicious. There was a choice of eggs, waffles etc.plenty of fresh fruit on offer plus an assortment of yogurts...and as many cups of coffee as you could drink! We would be happy to stay at The Hampton again.
