My boyfriend and I went for a long weekend to New York 6th - 10th Nov. We're both pretty laid back and not to keen to complain but this place is absolutely awful, so much so that I have felt the need to write a poor review about it! Everyone that we spoke to who was staying there, was of the same opinion and no one had anything positive to say about it other than the location is excellent. The hotel is very old and in dire need of a re-fit. The bathroom and the bedroom were both dirty (even after the cleaners had been in!), we couldn't open the window as it was so old, the air-con unit was letting out hot air only, there's no ceiling lights either so this makes the bedrooms very dark & dingy. It was a bit on the smelly side too. The worst thing though, was that my pyjamas were stolen from my room by one of the maid's and no-one helped me to find them and the hotel has refused to knock the cost of them off the bill! I loved New York and would go back there tomorrow if I could but there's absolutely no way that I'd stay at this hotel again, even if it was for free! My advice to anyone considering staying here is DON'T! Spend an extra £100 and stay somewhere that won't ruin your break away to such an amazing place.

“hated this hotel”

Hotel Pennsylvania New York

this hotel has to be the worst i have ever stayed in. myself and three friends went for some shopping for six days. i know that most hotels in the states are basic but this was down right dirty. it was filthy and the staff were appalling. i was afraid to walk on the carpet it was so dirty. there was no stopper in the bath and it was cracked and peeling.the corridor was frightening.

it was quite scary as there was no one checking the lift. anyone could come up to the corridor. myself and one friend had to travel a day earlier as we were airline staff and the flights were better that day so we had to do a separate booking for one night.well that was so confusing for the staff but they gave us a room which because of my airline i.d. they saId was an upgrade.well what a joke that was it was on the third floor and we since found ou that the first three floors are rented by the hour that says it all. there was no head boards on the beds the t.v. unit was falling apart and it felt as if the room had not been cleaned in years.

this hotel was not cheap we paid 2500 euros and i paid 215 dollars for the extra night. we had friends staying in the new yorker and they had a suite for the same price and there was no comparison living room 2 ensuites an ironing room and plasma television.

needlless to say we wont be going back again and i will be telling everyone i know to give it a wide berth.

thanking you,
gerardine kiernan

“Only If You're Desperate or Broke”

Hotel Pennsylvania New York

1 of 5 stars
Pittsburgh, PA
Nov 9, 2008

I'll keep this short: I usually stay at Affinia properties in Manhattan and still fully recommend them. I often stay in the same neighborhood that the Hotel Pennsylvania is in because I see sporting events at Madison Square Garden. Ended up at the hotel because a friend had a free room there.

I wouldn't go back if THEY paid me. Room was TINY, cramped, linens were junky, etc. Line at check-in was like the security line at an airport: long and sluggish.

Worst - there was essentially no climate control in our room. Could NOT turn on any air-conditioning at all, so it was roughly 85 degrees in there at all times. Did NOT make for a comfortable sleeping night.

If you only care about having a roof over your head after a day/night of boozing and seeing sports at the Garden, MAYBE this is OK. But I'd recommend spending the extra $100 or so to stay elsewhere - such as the Affinia Manhattan next door.

“Worst hotel ever”

Hotel Pennsylvania New York

Nov 7, 2008

It was one of the worst experiences ever. The room was dirty, noisy and dark. The staff was rude. It definitely does not worth the price, Too expensive for what we get. Will never ever come back to this pigsty.
