We selected the Woodfin for a five night vacation based on a stay at the same property several years ago and the TA reviews which talked about the hotel being quiet. One night after our arrival, the hotel was invaded by a horde of youth girl soccer players, parents and coaches. To say that these people were noisy, unruly and inconsiderate would be a sweeping understatement. The parents were even worse. They seemed to think that the hallways were an extension of their rooms for their gatherings. As our suite was at ground floor level facing the pool, it was particularly noisy. I went to the front desk to complain about the noise and to ask to be moved. The manager on duty said the hotel was filled for this big tournament and that the staff would stop the noise at 10 pm (which they didn't!). This invasion lasted for the next three nights and ruined our expectations of relaxing in our suite and by the pool. We changed our plans to minimize the time we spent at the hotel.
The staff should have been forthright in warning us about the soccer group when we checked in, should have put us into a quieter suite from the outset or certaintly should have moved us when we requested.
The property itself is nice for its class, the rooms and suites are spacious,and it has a very nice restaurant. However, the common areas were littered with food and paper.

While looking for a 4 night stay in San Diego for my family of four (2 adults, two kids - 10 and 6), we came across the Woodfin and saw this place as an alternative to other hotels. Expedia gave us the best rate for a 1 bedroom King suite, full kitchen, $130 per night.

For the price we paid and the suite we got, it was a case of good value. The suite was about 560 square feet and had more than enough space for a family of 4. The pull out sofa bed was adequate for the kids. The full kitchen made breakfast and snacks easy. There are restaurants and grocery stores about 3 miles away (10 minute drive). The Woodfin is nestled in a business district with a couple of hotels and a Chili's restaurant all within walking distance.

Woodfin appears to have opened in 2000. In high traffic areas in the rooms, the carpet needs a major shampoo cleaning. Trimming in our room needed some work (missing some floor trimming when going from tile to carpet, baseboards needed some cleaning, dusting). In one part of our suite, the wall was sticky - most likely from pop spray/spill. Our washroom was relatively clean however, the staff should have been more attentive in the corners. We used the pool a couple of days and a suite overlooking the pool area. It did not appear that staff was attentive to pool maintenance - even the changing of the used towel bin.

Overall, the Woodfin was an okay stay. It is a good long term alternative to most hotels. For the same price you will get a smaller place to stay with maybe a mini-fridge and a mike. Woodfin staff should be more attentive when cleaning suites and pool maintenance. It was not a bad start to our 2 week vacation in California. Look for our reviews on the Park Place Inn - Anaheim and Red Oak - San Luis Obispo.

Would recommend this place to long term travellers, business people and families.

What a pleasant surprise this hotel was. I'd never heard of the chain before and picked it somewhat randomly when looking for a dog friendly hotel in San Diego. Originally tried to stay at the Hilton Del Mar but they were so snotty on the phone that I went with the Woodfin, which was not only much cheaper but better reviewed, and I'm so glad I did. Hotel was very clean, room was absolutely spotless and large bathroom was sparkling. Tasteful decorating, gorgeous bedding. Room a bit small but was just fine. Only stayed one night but found it perfect for what we needed and a great deal as well. Would definitely return if in the area.

I recently stayed in a suite at the Woodfin after being evacuated due to the San Diego wild fires. While the circumstances were not great, I am pleased to report that the hotel facilities and staff were excellent. The room was comfortable and clean and the small kitchenette was very convenient. The french doors which separated the bedroom and living room were also a nice touch for privacy with 3 people in the room. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The restaurant served good food although it was a bit pricey. The free DVD rental was a nice touch. Also, I must mention the staff, from the front desk to housekeeping to the wait staff in the restaurant, everyone was extremely professional, kind and courteous. I would definitely recommend staying here.
