The past four days, I stayed at Bay Inn and Suites at SeaWorld in San Diego. They advertise "complimentary wireless internet access." Most
of the rooms, in fact, do not have a wireless signal that will allow people to hook into the Internet. I had two laptops and wifi phone with me on this trip. None worked from my room on their signal. Walking around with one of the devices trying to find a usable signal,
I concluded that about 10% of the rooms probably had a usable signal.
When I asked about staying in one of those rooms, the desk clerk told me they were not available.
As I was sitting in the lobby, attempting to stay connected with a low, intermittent signal - even in their "best" location - I heard the
front desk clerk repeatedly say to other guests on the phone, "It's working." From the rest of the conversation, the subject was ovbviously Internet access. Three other guests came to the small lobby with their laptops when I was there. While there was a local bar advertising free wireless access a block or so away, as one of the
other guests put it, "I don't feel comfortable carrying my laptop down there in this neighborhood." I agreed. Management made no attempt
to improve the situation or compensate me or others. I recommend people stay away. San Diego, on the other hand, was beautiful. Safe travels.
