The Marquesa Hotel is beautiful. I would highly recommend it. We are used to staying a large resorts and this was the first time that we stayed at an Inn (when we planned our trip we booked 4 nights at the Marquesa and 3 at the Westin - wish we stayed at the Marquesa all 7!) When we arrived we were brought to our Deluxe room which was very large (huge marble bath) with 2 queen beds. We were told that the central air had broken and that they had just put a window unit it. They apologized for this and told us that if we were comfortable (temp wise) we could stay in this room or they could move us. the problem was they would need to move us to a Standard room for 1 night, but then upgrade us to a Junior Suite for the following 2 nights. The owner (I think) left us to get us wine while we thought it over. We decided to move since it was warm in the room and we weren't sure it would get much cooler. Needless to say, we were able to see the Deluxe, Standard, and Junior Suites. The pictures on TripAdvisor don't do the hotel justice. (sorry I don't have pictures to post! It looks as good as the hotel website if not better) Each room was beautiful. They all had huge marble and granite baths with unique fixtures and beautiful unique furniture (think Ethan Allen) - nothing cheap or flimsy. Each room as a balcony (think cottage), most private. They had turn down service every evening. They have 2 pools, neither which were ever crowded. They were very quite. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. No young children. No one who works there bugs you - everyone leaves you to do your own thing - but at the same time, if you need something they are very accomodating. Although I would recommend this hotel to anyone, there were a few negatives/things to be aware of. They only serve a continential breakfast (not included), no lunch and no cocktails by the pool (though they do offer complimentary ice tea and water). Also, although the restaurant at the hotel (dinner) is supposed to be one of the best on the island, we had an inedible meal (oversalted to the point of inedible). The service was good though and the vegetable ravioli appetizer was great. Another note, the hotel appear on a map that it is far from the action - it is not, it is about a block from Duval. Overall, a great stay and probably the nicest hotel on the island for a romantic getaway.
