Just returned from a 2 week holiday at Sonesta Beach and had a fantastic time!
The hotel itself is huge. The blocks of rooms are quite spread out and at first it can be a bit confusing to find your way around, but after a couple of days its fine! The gardens around the hotel are immaculately kept and the gardening staff work throughout the day to keep them looking lovely.
The rooms are a good size, with everything you could need on holiday. We had a great view of the mountains from our balcony, great for watching the sunset! The lighting in the bathroom and dressing room is a bit dim at night...so it can sometimes be a bit tricky to do your make-up for a night out, but we managed!
The food is really nice, although it can get a bit repeatative! I'm a bit of a fussy eater and i found plenty to eat everyday. There are theme nights at the buffet restaurants every night - Tex Mex, Egyptian, French, Italian, Oriental etc, so there's something for everyone.
All of the staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them.
There are activites in the day with the animation team, either in the pool or on the beach, water volleyball, water aerobics, darts tournaments etc which are a lot of fun. The animation team are great, very friendly bunch of people and always try to get everyone involved! The nightly entertainment is ok, some nights it's better than others. This again is done by the animation team, so it appeals to children quite a lot.
The beach is gorgeous, you can see loads of different kinds of fish as soon as you step into the sea! You can buy a snorkelling kit from the shop on site for about £5, and it will keep you occupied for hours...there's so much to see under the water! We never had a problem finding a sun lounger on the beach, eventhough it isn't a huge stretch of beach. People selling excursions from the beach can be a bit annoying, asking you to go on one everyday, but they're all really polite and chat with you and a simple 'no thanks' or 'not today' is usually enough for them to leave you alone. We took a glass bottom boat trip from the beach, which was a great way to pass an hour or so one afternoon!
We booked one excursion through our rep at the hotel - Stars & Dinner. You spend the evening in the dessert with the Bedouins and they cook for you whilst you watch the sunset, then an astronomer talks you through the star constallations, and you have an opportunity to use the telescopes to look the planets. Really enjoyable evening out.
Naama Bay is about a 15 minute walk away from the hotel. You can either walk down the main road...or walk along the path (turn right at the beach) which has lots of little bars and restuarants. We chose to get a taxi into Naama Bay, then walk back as it was still 35degrees at night. You will find everything in Naama Bay - bars, restuarants, shops. There are loads of Shisha Cafe's aswell..they're worth a visit.
Overall it was a great holiday and would definatly go back, just maybe when it was slightly cooler as somedays it did get very hot, but what do you expect in the middle of July!!!
