Dubai was our last stop before returning to Perth on our world trip mid june 2008. 4 days 3 nights trully were not enough to unravel Dubai. A week would be just perfect and spend a day at the gold souk (you'll need it!!!). Make sure you put a 'restraining collar' on your female spouse/girlfriend/partner because she'll go absolutely CRAZY!! Just like I did!!!

Although we only spent a few hours (that wasnt enough) at the gold souk, I was overwhelmed by the glitter of gold and the bling of diamonds... It was love at first sight. Didnt think it has the same effect on my husband though - he probaby thought (with sweat on his forehead), "dear lord, how much is this 'outing' gonna cost me?".

I found the salesmen were quiet friendly, and the pieces they're selling were fab! Make sure you know the current gold rate, check jewellery's prices back home and haggle, so you don't end up paying the same or worse... more.

I regreted buying nothing but hey... next time we go i'll make sure I am draped in gold & bling from head to toe!

i went to dubai as a part of a world trip, and i loved it! the shopping was amazing, the malls are something else...
but the gold souk, my god... its awesome, i have never seen so many diamonds and gold in my life!! i spent most of the evening there and (eventualy) bought an amazing diamond ring...but you HAVE to haggle, i did and got a great deal, had it valued in the uk and found that i did get an amazing bargain, it was valued at nearly twice what i paid! will be going back again and again.

If i was going to give advice to anyone it would be to stick to simple jewellery. I had a ring designed and made by Mashoom Jewellers in the Gold Souk and the diamonds fell out twice. Although they did kindly replaced the diamond, it still fell out too easily. This also happened to another friend who bought from Mashoom Jewellers and her designed diamonds fell out twice as well. Another friend spend a lot of money and her rings that were round are no longer round. Also a watch that I bought and they added diamonds to it stopped working and it was a real hassle to get money back.

I basically will only buy ready made simple jewellery from the gold souk.

Gold Souk is definetly worth a visit where you have not seen so many shops in one strech selling gold. If you into buying gold then this is the place where you can bargain and buy some good Jewellery. Just have to be careful that you know what you buying and should know how to differentiate between a fake gold and a really one. Also when buying checke for a Hallmark mark embosed in a tiny H with a round circle. Best time to visit is during the evening as the shops are open till late so you can have more time to shop. If you go during the day then thats fine as well but they close at 12 or 1 and then reopen again at 4.00pm.
