Stayed for three nights and was pleased by this luxurious and reasonably efficient business hotel.
The room reservation and booking of airport transfer on arrival worked really well - prompt and courteous.
Front desk staff advised on check-in that I had been upgraded to a much sought after suite, #4001. The suite has a generous size balcony on the 40th floor with awesome views. The room itself was really top class with two flat screens, nice toiletries, great bed, etc. Nice surprises like candle light in the bathroom at night, different fresh fruits every day, sweets, etc., kept turning up. It made me feel pampered.
My room rate included access to and free buffet breakfast at the 44th floor lounge – very cosy place with great service. They claim to open for breakfast from 06h00 but one morning staff was still trying to complete the buffet at 06h40.
The swimming pool area and the spa is a gem – I found great service here.
The staff is generally friendly and service is very good although some of the junior staff lack in English capabilities.
Sometimes it was cumbersome to organise service over the phone. It almost seemed as if staff was looking for someone else or another department to do the job and every request had to be repeated to two different individuals. Why have a ‘guest services’ function when all they do is transfer the call to another department?
The rooms do not have a Wi-Fi broadband Internet connection (beware Apple/Mac users) – it’s done via a cable and that’s a pity with a great balcony with seating furniture. The reception areas and the lounge on 44th floor do offer Wi-Fi. The broadband connections I found to be very poor: slow, clunky to use and unstable.
In the morning on the day before departure I gave housekeeping a shirt that needed mending and they agreed to fix and return it the same day. This never happened and I forgot about it. When I got home I wrote to the hotel and they forwarded my shirt to me via DHL.
Grosvenor House is operated by Le Méridien and is part of Starwood Hotels Group but one does not earn SPG points here.
When I was bored with the hotel I walked down to the canal, turned right and walked along the canal for about 500 meters where several new restaurants and café’s have opened
Grosvenor House offer good value for money and would have liked to stay longer - I’ll probably stay here again.
