Unobtrusive externally, but pleasant exterior in a good neighbourhood - embassies and other quality properties. Walkable to Dupont Circle. Exceptionally pleasant, efficient and helpful desk staff. Room not large but really nicely presented, with a decent bathroom, coffee and a fridge. Free tea and coffee are permanently on offer in the dining area behind reception, and a really nice touch was the Tuesday night cheese and wine reception which gives you the chance to mingle with fellow guests. I got an exceptional 2 night deal at $117p.n. incl taxes, which I guess was a limited offer and/or just mid-week. Exceptional value for money. The only downside was the front desk recommendation to take the open top bus tour, which should have been great - but they don't have enough buses and I gave up waiting in the end and walked most of the circuit (a LONG walk!) They obviously have a commercial interest in this tie up, and in future I'd try another bus company.... or take a cab!

My son and I spent two nights at this lovely, small hotel near Dupont Circle. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood seven blocks north of the Metro. Very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived flustered after spending an awful two hours on the SuperShuttle from BWI, and Odette, the desk clerk was warm, welcoming and immediately offered to help us find another way to the airport. (Take Metro and Marc train from Union Station.) She was also a great source of info on places to eat that were good and affordable. The windows in the room opened - a feature I love for the fresh air.

My husband and I stayed at the Normandy for 2 nights following a hectic 5 days in New York and what a stay we had. We booked a double queen room with the most comfortable bed either of us had ever slept in. The bathroom was large and spacious and all the accessories you would need for a short-stay.

The hotel is located in residential area but is close enough to all the main tourist areas with easy access to the hop-on/hop-off City Tour (in fact it leaves you back at a hotel across the street) which is great after a hard day walking around.

We did not partake of the breakfast available but the eating areas and library in the lobby were very nicely decorated with comfy chairs - had we been staying longer we would have availed ourselves of these services. All the staff were friendly and helpful and we highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Washington DC.

We stayed for one night only of a week in the US, and wished all of our hotels were like this. The room, although not large, was very nicely fitted out, reasonably newish and perfectly clean. The bathroom was a little older, but very functional and again very clean. A highlight was the bed – large and flat, best of the trip by far (and compared against some much more expensive rooms). The desk staff were friendly and efficient.

The location was fine – a bit of a walk (uphill) from the nearest Metro stop at Dupont Circle though, but a few dollars on a cab will save your legs, and it is an easy walk downhill again. Walking distance (5-10 minutes) from a few restaurants on Connecticut Ave and 18th St NW. Metro ride only 10 minutes to most of the tourist destinations.

No restaurant and "Continental" breakfast only, but if you are like us and prefer to eat locally anyway, it isn't an issue, and there is coffee always available in the lobby.

We would definitely stay there again - for the fairly meagre amount we paid on Expedia it was fantastic value and we had no complaints at all.
