“Fantastic Tyl Hotel”

Hotel Tyl

We stayed at the Tyl Hotel and loved it. The staff were really helpful and friendly, everything was spotless and well cared for. Our room was very large with air con, minibar, hairdryer, large ensuite, lounge and excellent maid service. The buffet breakfast was very nice, everything was fresh and kept well stocked. There was a gym and jacuzzi free of charge to us. The hotel was only a 10 min walk to Wencelas Square or the trams and metro were just round the corner. We wouldn't hesitate to go back again, we loved our stay.

“Lovely friendly hotel”

Just returned from 5 days in Prague, went with my mum for her birthday. Hotel Tyl is lovely and spotless and we had a good size room. Breakfast was simple but very good. The hotel is 10 - 15 mins walk from the main areas but tram access is easy - 2 mins walk from the Tyl. You can buy tram tickets from the tabac shop nearby and they are cheap. We bought a day ticket for 100 crowns. If you dont validate your ticket by putting it in the machine the first time you use it or you dont have the correct ticket you can be fined 1000 crowns. There is a restaurant called Matildas near the Tyl food is very good and reasonable (international) lots of the locals eat there. We also went to Kogo near the old town square which was more expensive but very good food also. Cigarettes are reasonable at around £2 per pack of 20.
Beware the currency exchanges in the centre, even though it says no comission they will rip you off. The signs are very misleading and rate you get is very poor. We also used the small exchange on the corner across the street from the Tyl which was fine and the rate was good.
Next door to the Tyl there is a small pub with fruit machines and we called there regularly for a night cap. The ladies who work there were very friendly and drinks were cheap. We had a bad experience there on our last day. We went to go in and were told very aggressively by a large man to get out and that only czech people were welcome there. We were very surprised to be treated so rudely.
We loved Prague and the Tyl and would definately recommend the hotel to fellow tourists.
Would not recommend the bar next door to the Tyl.

“Clean, Comfy, and really friendly!”

Hotel Tyl

May 19, 2008

We booked this hotel for the facilities and the fact that it was out of the main tourist bit of Prague.
But when we got there we were disappointed to hear that they'd double booked and were moving us up to their sister hotel, the Green Lobster beside the castle, which, when we got there, wasn't what we were wanting at all.
So we got moved back down to Tyl the day after.
Once we finally got settled there, it was great.
Really clean, spacious rooms. Comfy beds. And a window that overlooked a small grassy park to the front of the hotel.
Even though it was beside a tram stop, we had no issues with noise the whole stay (we were there for 5 nights).

The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice for every taste, and enough to keep you going until lunchtime. Hot and cold options were available.

And it was fab to be able to go into the jaccuzzi to chill out after a day of walking around the town. Great for soothing tired feet!
We would of used the gym, but were so tired by the time we got back that it was a case of doing as little as possible!

We also liked that the hotel was out of the main tourist trap. And therefor restaurants weren't as expensive there as they were in town.
We were recommended Matilda's , on the same square as the hotel, and it was fantastic food, and even the wine wasn't overpriced!!
So thumbs up to that one!
And there is also a small pizza place around the corner from there that we went to, which was also cheap, and nice, although Matilda's had a bit more atmosphere.

We also found the transport links that this was close to (the Metro, and tram stops) very easy to use. Although, BE WARNED they have no empathy for tourists! We were stopped by the ticket inspector to check our tickets on the Metro, and both were fined 700 koruny (about £25) for not having stamped our tickets properly!

Getting to / from the airport was also easy, bus (119) from the airport to the Metro line - you can only go one way on the line - then get off at the Muesum and change lines to go to IP Pavlova. And when you get there take the first exit from the station on your right and then the hotel is pretty much second st on the left.
Easy!

Overall, we were really happy with our stay at the Tyl. Staff are fantasticlly friendly and helpful, and easy access to all transport links. Only ten mins walk to Wencless Sq, and about twenty mins to the bridge.
I would definately come back here again! :-)

Enjoyed our stay in the Tyl very much. It was always nice to come back to the peace and quiet after the hustle bustle of Prague. The staff were always helpful. Our room was excellent. It was fairly large and like the rest of the hotel was always spotlessly clean. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre and is well served by public transport if you don't fancy the walk.
On the downside breakfast was ok but did become a little monotonous. We were staying for seven nights. However this is really a minor point and did not detract much from what was a very good hotel. If we return to Prague we wont need to check out the hotels as we would be only too glad to stay here again

“Great little hotel”

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Tyl. It is located in the Vinorady section of Prague, around the corner from 2 tram lines and a 5 minute walk from the IP Pavlova stop on the red train line which gets you to Old Town in 3 stops. The hotel is lovely. It was recently renovated and it is modern and spotless. From the outside it does not look like much, but the rooms, though small, are well-equpped. We were in room 310, double. The bed was typical Czech (two beds as one, two blankets) but comfortable. The bathroom was well-appointed and updated. Clean towels were provided daily. The buffet breakfast (included in price) was quite nice: many different kinds of breads, croissants, rolls, granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, sliced meats/cheeses, eggs, coffee/tea etc. The breakfast room was very pleasant and the service was efficient. There is also a lounge with TV and internet (free) and a bar at night. The elevator is new and in good working condition. The front desk was unobstrusive, but helpful if asked.
Overall, if you are willing to be a 10 minute metro ride from Old Town, rather than a 10 minute walk, this hotel is a great find for the money at under $200/night
