“Terrible service, especially at breakfast time.”

As said in previous reviews, this is a hotel that works mainly with large tourist groups, so if you are looking for something more intimate and for a more personalised service this hotel won't be your cup of tea. The hotel itself is not that bad, actually is quite pretty. But the rooms are only ok (though they are clean) and the service really poor, as I have experienced especially in the morning, for breakfast. I had never seen such a mess: people were queueing in their search for food and the floor was covered with food and drinks that people was spiltting on the floor trying to make their way to their seats. A disaster! About the hotel facilities, mind that the hotel doesn't offer any internet access, while for the sport lovers you will find a decent swimming pool (towels provided for free). They also have a spa, but I haven't tried that. If you want to go out for dinner I reccommend the restaurant Tinajas, 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel: really worth while going!

“This was a nice hotel set up mostly for tour groups”

We stayed at this hotel, set up mainly for tour groups, as part of a tour group. We were visiting the nearby quite wonderful ruins of the Mayan city of Palenque. The rooms were nice enough - one wall was painted a darkish blue which made them appear a little smaller than they were. The food was buffet style, and good. The dining room is huge, with long tables set up to accomodate the tour groups. There is a nice pool, and an intreresting walk down through the jungle to a do-it-yourself mud spa and a pool to rinse off in. It was quiet down there and a good place to get a little rest from the busy-ness of the tour.

The dining room apparently is built on a slight slope, which required putting a step right in the middle of the floor just as you enter and are looking over toward the buffet offerings. One of our group actually fell, and I stepped down quite hard and jolted my spine. There is no (admittedly ugly) bright yellow line or anything to let you know it is there and our tour guide neglected to warn us.

The hotel is on the edge of the small town of Palenque, so one can get to the main shopping areas and the square by cab or about a 20 minute walk.

    • Liked — It's location, pretty grounds, and food
    • Disliked — The surprising step down in the middle of the dining room.

Mision Palenque is a big hotel with old rooms and bathrooms. We had to share our dinner-table with a German tourist group and we couldn't communicate. Fortunately most of tourists only stay here for one night just to visit Palenque Archeological Site wich is the best I 've seen in Mexico.

We did enjoy our stay until the last night when we discovered a leak in the ceiling due to heavy torrential rain. The floor was soaked and a lot of our luggage too. After waiting a very long time for a porter, we were moved to another room, which had two single beds, (not kingsize, which we'd asked for). At no point were we given an apology, our last night was ruined when we should have been enjoying our meal and a drink in the bar. I appreciate problems occur, but to not apologise or offer any compensation and get a downgraded room is not the kind of customer service one would expect from such a hotel.

It wasn't until I asked for compensation and made a fuss that we were given breakfast for free - not much compensation for a ruined night and wet luggage!
