We liked the Union Square Inn. The location could not be better. It's on the lower East side and we could walk to everything. Pack light because there is no elevator and you have to carry your bags your self up the stairs. The room was basic and small but it was clean. By NYC standards the room was actually... more
The rooms were clean as was the bathroom. The rest looked a bit shabby. The room(s) could do with a bit of fresh paint and contracting a windowcleaner would be a good idea. Bring your earplugs with you, as NYC is a noisy town and the sound insulation of the hotel is poor. The location was good, with good transportation... more
We booked ourselves & our 2 children into this hotel for 3 nights in August at the beginning of our tour of the USA. The hotel's own website described it as an 'affordable boutique hotel'. From this we imagined it to be nothing too fancy but at least comfortable with a touch of style. How wrong we were. When we... more
We were quite anxious before we saw the hotel IRL. Some of the reviews pointed out that it was dirty and stinky, but we were happy when we got there. But if you look for large open rooms with a nice view and elevator with mirrors, go somewhere else. The place is clean enough for us, and we are a... more
I stayed here for 1 night but gladly would have extended my stay. My room was in the basement, very spaceous with plenty of room to store belonings, air con and ample bathroom with huge shower. No view but its not the end of the world. The only fault I had was a member of staff wore noisey shoes early... more
What a dump. No elevator so you have to drag your bags up to 5 floors of stairs. Beds are hard as a rock. No blankets......two days later found them tucked away in the drawer. Sheets did not look like they were washed when we checked in. We placed the "wash sheets" card on the bed and they did not... more
The room was tiny, with a small window overlooking another wall. The whole room looked like a cell, extremely dark. They didn't clean up the room twice, without a reason. We were on the 4th floor and almost twice a day we had to climb 8 flights of stairs because the keycard would demagnetize, and they would give no explaination.... more
My room was small and in the basement. I kind of felt like I was in a cruiseship cabin. BUT-it was clean, there was space to walk around the beds, hang our clothes, and get ready. I get the impression this is how real New Yorkers live. Live in a cramped space, but in a totally happening neighborhood. As others... more
We stayed at The Union Square Inn for 3 nights at the beginning of June 2008 at the height of the heat wave and the air con, which was efficient but noisy, and fan were very welcome. The location is great but our room was very dark because the window was on to an alley but it was clean and... more
