This is a good 3 /4 star base if you want to be in Heliopolis. It's a bit of a trek if you want to get downtown though it is quite handy for the Citadel. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was OK. The rooms again are 3/4 star. They are extending the hotel at present... more

We booked this hotel through Venere a few days before we flew up from Luxor. We wanted a hotel handy to the airport and the Khan El Khalili Market, and we were happy to spend £100 a night, having worked out that Cairo, like Amsterdam, only gives good value at the extremes - mid range hotels are a terrible disappointment... more

We were booked into the hotel for an overnight prior to an early morning flight. While checking in, the music in the lobby was so loud it was hard to hear the desk clerk. They put us in a suite which was lovely but it was on the first floor overlooking the garden. Previous reviewers were correct about the band.... more

The Sonesta has a lot to offer. They are about 10 minutes away from the airport on a low traffic day (which is hard to come by). While we had a hiccup from our online reservation. We booked the Royal Club floor with a Jacuzzi and when we got to the hotel they had us in a regular room. When... more

I should have taken more notice of the other reviews - particularly the one advising against a room on the pool side due to the very loud live music played there until 1am in the morning. When you are tired it really is a pain. So, if you don't mind late nights then no problem, if you don't fancy the... more

My Sonesta stay was short and sweet. I had a very long trip ahead and wanted to get some rest before boarding the plane. Asked for a quiet room, and that's exactly what I got. The bed was a little squishy (I prefer firm), but it didn't make my back sore. At one meal at the Greenhouse and it was... more

Conveniently located in the posh and safe neighbourhood of Heliopolis in Cairo, Sonesta Hotel and Casino was a good option for our brief stay in Cairo. The hotel is just 20 minutes from the airport, 30 minutes to the Egyptian museum and other sights downtown and 45 minutes to the Pyramids of Giza. In addition to the location, the hotel... more

Airconditioning in the room sounded like a passing drumband. The rooms are very noisy especially the ones at the swimming pool-side. This is where a mediocrate band is playing its music till one in the morning at 100 dB. If they keep on claiming they have the best Italian restaurant in Cairo I advise you not to go to number... more

My husband and I were surprised to know there is an Apartheid system in this hotel: EGYPTIAN NATIONALS BEWARE!! We are Canadian, while my husband is Egyptian by birth. When we checked in to the hotel, the reception took a copy of our marriage certificate. They also demanded that he leave his Drivers License at the Reception desk while inside... more

We stayed at the Sonesta Hotel and Casino for two nights. This was booked by our travel tour company Noga Tours as part of a week stay in Egypt. First I want to say that we felt very safe in Egypt, Whatever part we went to, there were police everywhere. All public establishments and touring areas had metal detectors, x-ray... more
