Inkaterra Machu Picchu

Nov 16, 2008

We stayed at a couple of Inkaterra hotels in Peru. While we enjoyed our stay at Machu Picchu, this hotel, being a large one, was more impersonal with a few flaws in service. The setting in a jungle amidst wildlife and gorgeous orchids is unbeatable. The noise from the train station next door however was a bit jarring. The food... more

Hi fellow travelers. The photos that are attached give you a view over the Inca civilization saddled between Macchu Pichu (Old Mountain) and Wayna Pichu (Young Mountain). We took a bus from Aguas Calientes (think base camp) to Macchu Pichu up a series of treacherous switchbacks that scaled approximately 7,300 ft or more. The mountain pictured is Wayna Pichu, which... more

This is an excellent (and quite strenuous for many - think 1.5 hrs of stairmaster) hike / steep stair and trail climb to the top of a spectacular 360 degree vista of Machu Picchu and surrounding mountain peaks and river valley. However, be warned ..... !!!!!! There are also some very serious dangers to be aware of !!! These include:... more

I did ALOT of research ahead of time, making sure to pick the right hotel and this place was perfect. A hotel rep met me at the train station with baggage handlers who carried my bags to the hotel (about a 3 minute walk thru lush landscaping). She checked me into my room inside the guestroom - so I didn't... more

I could have found lots of reasons why I shouldn’t take up the offer to ride to Machu Picchu in Peru. The obvious one being the distance from home, but even as I composed my ‘how kind of you to offer me such a wonderful opportunity but unfortunately I will sadly have to decline’ email, a niggling doubt ate at... more

Arrived to find no electrical power in our hotel or the entire town, which the locals say occurs often. Our hotel thus had no power except for an (too) small emergency generator that only ran for a few hours in the evening but not after midnight or during the daytime. Becasue no 220V power was available from this generator, we... more

Sanctuary Lodge Machu Picchu

Nov 4, 2008

After 4 days hiking on the Inca trail, this place was a true sanctuary. It is of course, extremely expensive, but having arrived at Machu Picchu at 3pm, the last thing we wanted was a half an hour bus trip to Aguas Calientes. The Sanctuary lodge is perfectly located, literally just outside the gates of Machu Picchu - so we... more

I cannot begin to express how happy we were at the Inkaterra hotel. Wish we had more time there. The property is large, and they have incorporated the natural beauty and surrounding to make the patrons feel like they are really in some exotic place and one with nature. They encourage nature activites in the hotel which is such a... more

You can't beat the location! The resort is steps away from the ruins. Super exclusive. They cater to your every need. Very pricey but if you can swing it stay there. The food is wonderful. more

Machu Picchu at sunrise is absolutely amazing. You could see the sun rays over the Andes and light the ruin. . We took the train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes instead of hiking. I highly recommend going to Machu Picchu early in the morning since it can get extremely hot in the daytime hours. Besides, I believe it is more... more

OHMYGAWD!!! I never thought I'd every hear myself say that a room costing more than $800 per night was worth every single dime of it. The location, people, food, service --- All A +++. We celebrated my wife's 60th birthday with a huge splurge with high expectations -- all of which were exceeded. I told them in advance of the... more

This property wants to be a four-star, but should be happy being a good three-star. It would take a lot of money and work to make it a four star. I don't think they need to. They fill their niche adequately. The rooms are comfortable, although a little boring in their decorating. Everything was exceptionally clean. The bellboy (Jose), wait... more

We stayed at Hatuchay Tower for one night in October 2008. It's modern hotel. If you're looking for old-world charm, this isn't the place. If you're looking for a comfortable quiet room where the plumbing works, you'll be happy. We made the reservation by email to the hotel. Response was prompt and in English. The hotel sent someone to meet... more

I was there for just one night, after a sunny, beautiful, but tiring day at Machu Picchu. Location is o.k. Room had an "old fashioned" look, but was really clean and nice. Besides, we were lucky to have a beautiful view from our room, to the Urubamba river (I realize how lucky we were after reading the reviews of some... more

What a big mistake! Only staying one night that is, we should have stayed at least three! This hotel surpassed all our expectations. Nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff, our room was spacious and incredibly beautiful. Loved the fireplace in our room and did indeed light the fire in the evening. The public rooms with comfortable sofas with... more

To make sure I would be able to climb Huayna Picchu, I was waiting at the bus stop at 5am. I evenutally got on the 5th bus so potentially there were 200 people in front of me. You still have to walk through MP after getting your ticket and I arrived at the gate ready for the climb at 6.15am.... more

My husband and I stayed there for 2 nights in Sept 2008 so we can maximize our time at Machu Picchu. Truthfully, the place is only good for its convenience to Machu Picchu. It is expensive for what you get, but as other reviewers have stated, everything in Aguas Calientes was expensive because everything had to be brought in by... more

Due to a transport strike we were unable to take the train to Machu Picchu so used a helicopter which got us to the hotel around 09.00. We were taken to the buffet bar to fill in the reservation forms etc, which seemed to take forever. It was our wedding anniversary that day and we were told that we were... more

I' afraid our stay here was a total disaster ! 1 - Arrived off the Inca Trail at 8am, just to leave off our back packs : We were soaked and had been up at 3am for our final hike . The doorman took one look at us, and refused to let us in. He made us stand on the... more
