Outback Pioneer Hotel

I booked a stay for my friend and I in a 4-person lodge room through the YHA website. Check in was simple and easy, and our room was satisfactory - clean enough and with a heater/AC unit for comfort. We stayed for two nights. We chose the Outback Pioneer Lodge because of the extreme price of other Resort options. However,... more

I stayed for a night prior to starting a 3 day camping tour of Uluru/The Olgas/Kings canyon. I'd made the decision to fly in direct to Ayers Rock and pick up my tour mid way through the first day rather than do the long drive too and from Alice Springs in bith directions - but this was before I'd seen... more

This is a nice hotel but its not top class and looking a bit tired in places. The cafe food was poor and the furniture around the pool is in desparate need of replacing. The art displays in reception are good and everything was clean and tidy. Howeverfor what for me took this hotel up an entire class was the... more

Desert Gardens Hotel

Considering that this is located in the middle of a dessert, this is not a bad hotel, it just doesn't live up to its billing. Rooms are spread out over considerable distances and getting to and from them in heat can be very, very difficult. There is no news stand for any sundries or magazines or any of the usual... more

As other reviewers have said, this "resort" falls far short of its description as 4-5Star. Obviously one makes allowances for the fact that it's in the middle of the desert and everything has to be transported in but the whole place is beginning to look very tatty and dated. The rooms are shabby with cheap linen and towels and the... more

Stayed in Sails in the Desert in late September for 3 nights. Took the free shuttle bus from the airport and arrived at the hotel in about 15 minutes. Surprisingly with so many people arriving at the same time, check-in was very efficient and luggage was delivered directly to the room. Our room (1349) was a standard room. It was... more

Booked a "budget" twin room for myself and a friend for one night. Went there expecting the worst - ie small crappy room, with no facilities. When we checked in, we actually had a very big room, and we did have ensuite facilities, so I was quite happy actually. It almost made the $200 for 1 night worth it given... more

I have been waiting to write this review since we completed this "experience". While a number of reviews and the guidebooks make this out to be a once in a lifetime experience, we found this to be overrated. Way overrated. Be prepared for a 4+ hour experience as you leave the hotels at ~ 6PM (after an unorganized wait to... more

I think this is the cheapest place for miles. The room was very nice, decent bathroom. People at the front desk were generally helpful. Wish there were more frequent and cheaper shuttles to the rock, etc. But the hotel is good. There are a few places to eat, from $10-15 wraps/burgers to DIY BBQ for about $30. more

The rooms are tatty and in need of a good clean and redecorating. Its very, very expensive, wish had stayed somewhere else! Would not recommend it! Reception and tour booking staff were sullen and not very helpful. (the rest of our trip to Australia was just the opposite). Not even a bottle of water in the room to drink after... more

The Ayers Rock resort is extremely commercial with all the hotels very close together - it almost feels like one huge hotel, which is not surprising given they are all owned by Voyages. The reception was clean and spacious, check in was fairly well organised. Our room was a decent size and had a terrace with a table and chairs.... more

Lousy monopoly scheme. Everything controlled by the same owners so everything is mediocre but what are you going to do, where are one supposed to stay? more

We recently stayed at this resort and whilst I appreciate that it is the best in the area and it is in the middle of the desert it is definately NOT a 5,or 4 * resort. If you book a resort that has a star category you expect it to be similar to other 4/5* resorts. The resort was not... more

We took advantage of a special 3 night package when we stayed together with another couple at the Emu Walk apartments in early September. Because we were able to to share the costs we got a 2 bedroom apartment for $156/night per couple which I don't think was too bad really. You do have to search to find the right... more

They bill this as the Five Star hotel in the resort, but for anyone who has stayed in a five or even four star hotel, you'll be disappointed. The floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed and the toilet was 'brown' stained. Excellent view of Ayers rock (Uluru), however and friendly staff. Restaurants were very expensive although you can eat... more

I stayed here with my husband and my best friend and decided to all share a room to cut down the cost. We decided to pay the extra for and en-suite room and were extremely surprised at how large, comfortable and luxurious it was. As we were passing one of the dorm rooms on the other side of the complex... more

The hotel was disappointing, and we had a bad experience with the man who dealt with us at the front desk (Mr Francis Pryer - beware of him). When we arrived at the airport on our flight from Sydney, our suitcase containing all our clothes wasnt there (it had been sent to Cairns!). By the time we had waited to... more

I stayed at the lodge for two nights whilst traveling. The dorm room was 20 bed... nightmare given that most of the excursions are either a 4am start or late finish. The dorms are also next to the noisy bar. Night times are freezing, and there was no heating in the dorm. The shop on site was expensive, so even... more

Headline says it all! We had a 4 bed room for our family for 3 nights-and tha's it a room with 4 beds and luckily a heater in it-however this was all we were expecting, as had done our research-and this was really all we were prepared to pay at the prices the Ayres rock resort charges. Drinks and food... more

I spent a few days in Alice Springs in late September/early October 2008, and I took a day trip to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. If you can, I think renting a car in Alice Springs and driving yourself to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park would definitely be ideal - there are places along the way where I would've liked to have... more
